Caf-fez is Bunbury’s home to Yahava Organic Coffee, Bannister Downs Dairy milk, and a fresh, tasty menu.

With various local artists invited to decorate the extensive walls, Caf-fez is a great venue for creative endeavours.  Since taking over ownership in 2016, owners Bianca and Matt Fletcher have welcomed performers and musicians for intimate concerts, Writing Festival events, Spoken Word Poetry nights, Cinefest Oz events, and community group AGMs and meet ups.

Good coffee is a strong rival for Bianca and Matt’s passion for theatre and the arts, and they have been able to successfully combine both into the commercial operation of one of Bunbury’s signature coffee shops.

  • “Caf-fez had always had a solid reputation,” Bianca said.

“Diversifying to create an artistic community hub has given us a platform to support broader community initiatives, and satisfy our own creative interests while at work.”

The need to re-energise the city centre has been widely recognised and publicised, so the couple are exploring ways to encourage people to explore their venue in new and creative ways, outside of their usual trading hours.

  • As such, Caf-fez regularly hosts artistic events and has particularly enjoyed supporting the annual Shorelines Writing for Performance Festival.  The beer, wine, and supper available for purchase is always well received by patrons looking for a night out with a difference.

Bianca was born and mostly raised in Bunbury, while Matt has lived in Bunbury since his family’s move from the UK when he was just 11 years old – both consider themselves proper locals.  The Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre where Matt worked as a technician for 15 years remains dear to the couple, as the place where they met during a local theatre production of The Sound of Music while Bianca was performing.  They later held their wedding on the BREC stage in 2006.

When their son Lucas was born in 2010, they were both working in resources.  They later moved to Port Hedland when Bianca took on a Manager role at the then Port Hedland Port Authority.  After 3 years away, they headed home to Bunbury in 2016 to be closer to family, and to explore options to purchase their own business.

Matt said living and working away had instilled in them both the value of community, which they strive to foster at Caf-fez.

As owners of a 7-days-a-week business, they couldn’t do what they do without the dedication of their small team.  Their training in ‘Specialty Industry’ techniques ensures consistent and delicious coffee, the kitchen crew smashes out a delicious and fresh all-day brekky and lunch menu until 3pm, 7 days!
